SunSwitch links servers to the network via two full-duplex 1-Gb/sec Ethernet connections. Combined with the Sun GigabitEthernet Adapter, SunSwitch delivers unprecedented network and server performance, making bottlenecks a thing of the past. SunSwitch also includes eight 10/100-Mb/sec ports to connect hubs, switches, routers, clients, or other servers. Traditional single- and multiserver applications such as backup and mirroring, cooperative computing between file and compute servers, distributed server synchronization, and load-sharing server farms will realize significant improvements in throughput. Sun's new product offers capabilities unavailable on general-purpose switches, including high-speed connectivity, congestion control, and intelligent SNMP network management.
